Making a brand new website from scratch can sound daunting, especially if you’ve got no experience in coding or HTML. In fact, if you have zero experience with either of these things, you might assume that you can’t make a website at all, and instead have to pay someone else a lot of $$$ to do it for you. There are lots of free builders such as Webs website, Yola website and many more. It’s up to you what to choose.

Tripod website builder provides a solution for you.

The Tripod site builder offers a totally free service to web developing newbies who have no experience with coding. Essentially, they’ve done all the hard work for you; all that is left is for you to drag and drop a few items to make your very own website!

Okay, it might be a tiny bit more complicated than that, but Tripod was designed to help small businesses get themselves on the Internet in no time at all without any hassle. So let’s take a look at how to make a Tripod website in a few small steps.

How To Make A Tripod Website

Getting Started

To set the wheels in motion, hop over to Tripod.com and fill in the simple membership form. You will be asked for a member name, and it’s important that you take your time over it as this is pretty much the only thing you can’t change. Then, select a memorable password. There are a few check boxes that need to be unchecked. If you check them, you will inevitably receive a lot of junk mail.

Using The Site Builder

Like all web development tools, Tripod comes with a Tripod site builder. You will first be taken to a website templates page, where we suggest that you start with a multi-page template. You will find this under “Start with a multi-page template.” Any templates you choose can later be replaced. You can also get through this stage quicker by selecting “Start with an express site template.” Then you will need to choose a name for your site, add a footer, choose pages for your site (these can be deleted and new ones can be added later).

Website Design

When it comes to website design, you will notice that there is a long toolbar at the bottom of the page. Some of the tools here include “Add picture” “Add text” and “Publish to the web.” You will more than likely need to use every single button at some point. But don’t worry, everything is pretty much self-explanatory and easy to use. There is also a “Help” button on the far right which we suggest that you click on. We also suggest that you experiment because everything can easily be deleted with the handy “Delete Item” button.

Add Text

When you click on “Add text”, the Site Builder will ask you where on the page you want to put the new text. You don’t need to fret too much at this point, because you can always move it later. After you have chosen Add Text, we suggest that you write your text in MS Word or something similar. In this way, you can benefit from using a spell checker. Then, once you are satisfied, simply copy and past the words in your text box.

Add Pictures

Adding pictures with the Tripod website builder is really simple. Like with the Add Text button, you will first be asked where on the page you want to add the pictures. Again, you don’t need to take up too much time because images can be moved later. Tripod provides Clip art, but it isn’t spectacular. We suggest using graphics from the web or from your computer. To insert a picture, simply download a pic from the Internet. Then click on “Add picture” and choose where you want it. Upload the picture and select “Done”.

Add-Ons

There are several add-ons available on Tripod that you can add to your site. These are under either Cool Content or Interactive Features. Some of these add-ons include a page counter, which tells you how many visitors are viewing your page; animated curers, forms, and even free web content that changes each day without you having to do anything, such as jokes.

Tripod does have a free version, which you might want to use. If, however, you want more web storage as well as a customised domain, you can opt for the personal package or the professional package. The personal is offered at £5.95 a month, whilst the professional will cost you £11.95 a month.
